Very Narrow Aisle
Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) racking maximizes cubing by shrinking aisle width while preserving direct pallet selectivity. VNA systems typically run 72” aisles and are accessed using wire-guided turret trucks, with many systems using automated position locators for faster access.
Structural VNA Capabilities:
Structural VNA is ideal for tall, high-traffic environments where rack interaction risk rises as aisles tighten. Structural rack’s impact tolerance becomes increasingly valuable in narrow, guided travel lanes.
Roll Form VNA Capabilities:
Roll form VNA is a common approach when you want cost efficiency and modularity, provided you have disciplined equipment guidance and protection. Roll form rack’s thinner-gauge construction makes guarding and operator compliance especially important.
Excellent for cold storage, food distribution, and grocery where land/building costs make vertical cube utilization a primary ROI lever.
Advantages:
Low initial rack cost
High productivity in full pallet retrieval
Limitations:
Fork trucks cannot pass in aisles
Difficult to pick and restock at the same time
High fork lift cost
Requires rehandling to dock and shipping trucks
