Selective Racking: What You Need To Know

Single selective rack is by far the most basic of all rack configurations.  At the same time it also provides the highest degree of selectivity with respect to access to stored pallet loads.  The downside to a warehouse filled with selective rack is that more than half of your warehouse square footage will be fork truck aisles.

In its most basic form, selective rack is simply uprights and beams.  The pallet load is then placed directly on the front and rear beams.  Safety bars, cross bars, pallet supports and/or wire decks can be added to assist and assure that pallets are properly loaded.

Advantages:

  • Low cost per pallet position
  • Full selectivity and direct access to each pallet
  • Easily configured to any load size

Limitations:

  • Low density
  • Poor use of cubic space
