Weld Supervisor (MIG), Night Shift – UT

Role:

The Welding Supervisor is responsible for managing the combined areas of welding, jig welding, and fabrication operations.

The Welding Supervisor oversees welding operations including lay-out, fit, fabrication, and welding metal components to assemble structural forms; such as fixtures, jigs and racking. While also using knowledge of welding techniques, drawing interpretation, and understanding of engineering requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Insure a safe working environment for employees.
  • Planning, scheduling, and staffing of dept.
  • Train new employees and evaluate personnel to company expectations.
  • Hold team members accountable for their tasks, and discipline when necessary.
  • Train employees in use of machinery, jigs and fixtures and in effective assembly of product.
  • Monitor schedule for meeting shipping requirements
  • Develop processes using continuous improvement methods.
  • Document processes and procedures for training and process improvement.
  • Monitor finished product to meet quality standards.
  • Coordinate material requirements and monitor inventory.
  • Optimizing material utilization to reduce scrap cost.
  • Troubleshoot problems as they occur.
  • Coordinate department equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Inspecting grooves, angles or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper and precision measuring instruments.
  • Applying knowledge of geometry and welding techniques.
  • Sets example for quality and productivity in support of goals.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly and welding operations.
  • Capable of laying out, parts, positions and assemblies according to specifications using straightedge, combination square, calipers and rulers.
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications, Requirements and Education:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Must be bi-lingual (Spanish speaking)
  • 5+ years of experience in a metal fabrication and welding environment
  • Reliable transportation
  • Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures with the metal fabrication industry
  • Working knowledge of safety principles and practices
  • Previous experience working with advanced manufacturing principles (lean)
  • Working knowledge of quality control principles
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to resolve problems quickly
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work with others and resolve conflict in a positive manner
  • Ability to read tape measures and angle guides
  • Lifting capability up to 50lbs
  • Adherence to all safety protocols and utilization of all equipment in a safe manner
  • Good math skills including fractions and angles
  • Ability to read tape measures and angle guides
  • Ability to read blueprint drawings
